JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER

John D. Rockefeller was an American entrepreneur and founder of Standard Oil, who turned his attention during the 1890s to charities and benevolence.

He made possible the founding of the University of Chicago in 1892 and in association with his son, John D. Rockefeller Jr., he created major philanthropic institutions, notably the Rockefeller Foundation, The Rockefeller University, The General Education Board.

His name is widely remembered both for its philanthropic endeavors as well as for the “Rockefeller Center” which bears his name and is visited by millions of tourists visiting New York city.
